The General Service 'Maple Leaf' Badge Type 'A' was worn by Canadian soldiers on their model 1905 cloth service caps early in the war. A uniting symbol amongst many of the units, the Maple Leaf began to encompass and represent all Canadians during the war - even after the cloth cap was scrapped in lieu of the Brodie Helmet, the Maple Leaf would continue to be used by our men and women in uniform.
Although not the origin of the symbol of the Canadian Maple Leaf, the use as a Cap Badge in the great war was one of it's defining moments - and helped pave the way for it to finally be adopted as our national symbol and flag.
